Welcome to The Rugby History Project, where every body means everybody. Here at The Rugby History Project, we discuss an expansive view of rugby history, as well as an occasional diversion into current rugby issues.

What is The Rugby History Project?

The Rugby History Project was founded in 2025 as a way to combat the often narrow scope and exclusionary view of the current rugby history landscape. No longer is women’s rugby, class issues, or race seen merely as a footnote in a longer story: it is the story. Free to access editions of The Rugby History project are usually released twice a month, with more regular tidbits released on Bluesky and Instagram. There is also the Historian Tier, which is access to monthly exclusive content.

Who runs The Rugby History Project?

That would be me, Hattie Bradshaw, the mad woman behind The Rugby History Project! I love all things Women’s and Welsh Rugby. I am technically an Art Historian, but I’ve combined my love for rugby and history with this project. I’m a Scarlets and Brython Thunder fan with a Loughborough Lightning season ticket; I just bleeding love rugby. You may also see research assitant Molly on socials, she’s a fourteen year old black lab who really likes cricket but isn’t that fussed by rugby.

Historian Tier

Historian Tier subscribers are the backbone of The Rugby History Project. Historians receive an exclusive monthly newsletter alongside other bits of bonus content and discount codes to The Rugby History Project shop. Historian Tier costs £4 a month, with an annual subscription costing just £40 (two months free!).

Historian Tier Subscriptions help keep The Rugby History Project going, contributing to site hosting fees, archive access and the odd research book. If you decide to upgrade, you live with the knowledge I had a little cry when I got the notification (happy tears).
